Chairlift ride
The route begins in Siviez. We parked the car for free in one of the very large car parks available at the foot of the chairlifts. We took the Siviez – Combatseline chairlift (10 CHF per adult). chairlift from Siviez – Combatseline

Hike to the dam

We then started the hike to the dam (because it is not immediately visible). The path is narrow and at first quite uneven and slippery. It’s not particularly difficult but you have to stay focused.

After a little less than an hour of walking, we see the dam between the mountains and its truly extraordinary blue-cream basin.

We picnicked at the side of the path, on a rock overlooking the dam. We saw marmots just below us, a beautiful sight.

From there, it is possible to go down to the dam from the path, but we preferred to continue to go around the lake.

The lake and the dam

In less than an hour from our picnic spot, we arrived at the end of the lake. From there it is possible to continue in the valley to arrive at Lac du Grand Désert. Unfortunately we didn’t have time for this round trip but we will come back because it seems that it is a magnificent place.

So we continued the path along the lake. It is possible to go through both sides, but we preferred to stay on the right bank because we saw through binoculars a herd of cows blocking the opposite path.

Arriving at the dam, we found a path that goes down to the water. We enjoyed bathing our feet in the cold water of the lake. What happiness!

The path then passes over the dam and descends to its base. What follows is a quiet but not very interesting descent through the forest to the Siviez chairlifts.
