1. The Krimml Waterfalls

The Waterfalls in Krimml are fed by the Krimmler Ache, a river that has its source at the end of the Krimml Achental valley. At first it runs gently through flat Alpine pastures to reach the end of the valley after 20 km and to fall down the giant stages of the Krimml Waterfalls as a roaring glacial stream.

The waterfalls of Krimml are devided in three sections, the Lower waterfall (140 m drop height), the Middle waterfall (100 m drop height) and the Top most Waterfall (145 m drop height).

2. The Krimml waterfall trail

The Krimml waterfall trail was constructed in 1901, by the Warnsdorf section of the Austrian Alpine Association. From then, the 4 km long trail has taken nature lovers very close to the nature spectacle of the Krimml Waterfalls.

After a 10 – 15 minutes’ walk from the parking area, you reach the lowest waterfall. From here, the serpentine waterfall trail leads up to the top waterfall (duration approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, it takes longer if you stop for taking pictures).  Along the trail vantage platforms afford sensational views of the roaring water masses of the Krimml Waterfalls. Up to the vantage platform Kürsingerplatz the trail is built to meet the needs of disabled visitors.

overview of the Krimml Waterfall Trail is available, it describes the trail and the platforms along the waterfalls.

6. Directions & parking

From Wenns drive out of the Pitztal valley. You can take the A12 to Innsbrück and Jenbach, if you want to drive a touristic road, you can take the B171, also to Innsbrück and Jenbach. After Jenbach, take the B181 and B169. Then the B165 to Krimml.

From Wenns to Krimml, the road via the A12 takes 2 hours and 10 minutes. For safety it is advised not to take the A12 from Imst to Innsbruck via the Roppener Tunnel as many accidents happen inside this tunnel. Instead take the road B171 towards Karres/Ötztal just at the roundabout at the other side of the bridge across the river Inn.
