The creations of gardens is an extremely popular art form in Japan. Indeed, Japanese gardens respect a precise design and include a number of elements (rocks, paths, water, plants, …) which are very carefully selected. Their layout within the garden is also meticulously elaborated. It is from this tradition that the magnificent natural site of the Japanese Garden in Nendaz got its name : in fact, a stream meanders down between rocks and mountain flowers. A true masterpiece designed by Mother Nature!

WHY IS IT WORTH THE DETOUR ?

This place emanates a feeling of well-being and serenity. The Japanese Garden is also particularly suitable for families, where a delicious picnic in the fresh air can be enjoyed by all. In addition to this, this beautiful place is accessible to everybody : for the more sporty among you, departing from Siviez offers you a longer hike, while, for those too impatient to discover this site, a quicker way via the Tortin chairlift is also available.

ADVICE FROM THE LOCALS

Keep this hike for a hot day. You will be happy to take advantage of the coolness of the water for a well-deserved break and why not even kick off those walking boots and enjoy a little paddle in your bare feet.

Your hike begins in Siviez. Follow the path towards Tortin. The ascent takes place on a path that runs from time to time along the river Printse.

At the Tortin mountain pasture, continue along the dirt track to the Col des Gentianes cable car departure station. From here, follow the yellow signs for the Japanese Garden. From here it is about a 45 minute walk.

The Japanese Garden is a plateau with meandering streams running through it. It is so named because its beauty gives the impression that it has been landscaped by man. But it was not! It is 100% natural.

Hikers appreciate the peacefulness of the place. With its Zen-like appearance, the Japanese Garden radiates peace and serenity. Children find it an ideal place to play, skipping over the streams and climbing over the rocks.

Once you are rested and refreshed, head back to Siviez following the same route down as on the way up.

If you wish to shorten your walk, you can take the chairlift from Siviez to Tortin in summer (remember to check if the chairlift is open and to check the schedule before you leave)!

Very beautiful hike which climbs in the pastures to end at the place called “the Japanese Garden”. For the ascent I took the marked path which passes by the cable car station of “Mont Fort” which is at the foot of the mountain of the same name, the view is impressive, we are very small at the foot of these mountains. I climbed a bit higher to have a bird’s eye view of the famous Japanese garden. I finally came back down to do the garden itself and there is nothing to say it’s magnificent, a stream that winds through a scree of rocks the ground covered with mosses and grass with beautiful fall colors. then you have to think about the descent! I tried to follow as much as possible the stream that comes out of the Japanese garden and for that I took the ski slopes. I was very lucky the day before it has a little snow and so I saw the landscape under the snow in the morning and in the afternoon without the snow it had melted.
